City & Guilds VRQ Level 2 Diploma Combined Hair & Beauty Therapy LM
How long? Two one-year courses
What do I need?
Due to the nature of this profession, it is important you are motivated, able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team. You should be well-presented, with good communication/ social skills and an interest in hairdressing and beauty therapy. In addition to this, school leavers will need at least one of the following:
Four GCSEs at Grade D or above, or
Successful completion of an appropriate Foundation Learning qualification with a good attendance record and satisfactory reference from your tutor.
What will I study? Hairdressing units include (Year 1):
• Shampooing • Conditioning • Health and safety • Client care • Styling hair • Perming • Cutting and colouring.
Beauty units include (Year 2):
• Make-up • Manicure/pedicure • Eye treatments • Health and safety • Waxing • Facial • Teamwork • Customer care.
Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English dependent upon results at entry.
What can I do next?
After successful completion of both courses, you can progress to a VRQ Level 3 in either Hairdressing or Beauty. Alternatively, you can seek employment within theatre, television, on a cruise liner, in a health hydro, hairdressing salon, beauty salon or department store, or as a salon manager/owner.

How long? One year
What do I need?
You should have successfully achieved NVQ/VRQ Level 2 in Hairdressing with a good attendance record and a satisfactory reference from your tutor. You should also have a mature and responsible attitude to work and good communication skills are essential.
As places on this course are limited candidates will undertake a skills and theory test.
What will I study? Units studied will include:
• Advanced cutting • Colouring • Long hair work • Hair extensions.
What can I do next?
After completing the course, you may seek employment in a salon management role, or teaching and training.
