What do I need? You will need either:
Level 1 Foundation Tier Diploma in ICT, or Four GCSEs at Grade D or above.
What will I study? There are three core units:
• Communicating in the IT Industry • Working in the IT Industry • Introduction to computer systems.
Additional units include:
• Introduction to computer systems • Software installation and upgrade • Technical fault diagnosis and remedy • Installing hardware components • Multimedia design.
What can I do next?
If you achieve a Merit level you can progress to the BTEC National Diploma in IT (two years).

BTEC Level 3 Diploma in IT (Networking and Systems Support) N
How long? Two years
What do I need? You will need either:
Four GCSEs at Grade C or above, or A Merit at BTEC Level 2 Diploma in IT.
What will I study? Core units include:
• Communication and employability skills for IT • Computer systems • Information systems • Managing networks • Computer networks • Communication technologies • IT technical support • IT systems troubleshooting and repair.
Specialist units* available include:
• Organisational systems security • Spreadsheet modelling • Database design • Event driven programming • Installing and upgrading software • Data analysis and design • Human computer interaction • Maintaining computer systems • Digital graphics and computers • Developing computer games • Network system security.

During the two-year programme you will also study a range of qualifications including GCSE Maths and English if you do not have a Grade C in these subjects.
What can I do next?
Study for an HND or Degree programme, or seek employment as the skills you will have gained are very relevant for seeking jobs in IT and computing areas.
