Who can attend?
If you’re working at Entry Level 1 and 2, this course is for you. It’s designed for students who need a supportive environment in which to learn, and the students on this course will either have a Statement of Special Educational Needs or have missed a significant amount of schooling. For those who choose to attend this course at Lower Mounts, you’ll study one module at Booth Lane.
What do I need?
You must possess a willingness to take part in new learning opportunities and show you are committed to furthering your education.
What will I study?
Towards Independence is designed to develop your social skills and prepare you for independent living. You’ll learn social skills, literacy and numeracy, as well as studying an ‘Independent Living’ module, which will include shopping, cooking, cleaning and budgeting, and an ‘Accessing the Community’ module, which will involve visiting local amenities and facilities and eating out in local cafes.
You’ll be taught in small groups and will be set targets to achieve. Both your targets and your progress will be monitored regularly in tutorial sessions.
We’ll assess your individual needs at your initial interview, and if necessary, will arrange additional support to help you achieve your learning goals.
What qualification will I gain? You’ll work towards a recognised Entry Level qualification.
What can I do next?
You may be able to progress to other Supported Learning courses, such as Next Steps, work-based training or employment.

Who can attend?
If you’re working at Entry Levels 2 and 3, this course is for you. It’s designed for students who need a supportive environment in which to learn, and the majority of, but not all, students on this course will have a Statement of Special Educational Needs or have missed a significant amount of schooling.
What do I need?
Although there is no formal entry requirement, your level of education must be at Entry Level 2 or 3 and you must be willing to take part in new learning opportunities and to improve your literacy, numeracy and social skills. You also need to be committed to furthering your education.
What will I study?
Next Steps is designed to develop your academic and work skills so that you can progress onto a Level 1 course or into work. You’ll study Literacy, Numeracy and ICT and can choose a vocational option from: Catering, Business Administration or Retail. Childcare and Health and Beauty options are available at Daventry. You’ll be expected to complete work experience in your chosen vocational area.
