Accessing College & Education (ACE) D N
How long? One year
Who can attend?
If you’re a school leaver, ACE is for you. This is a Full-time transition course for young people who have just left school, running for 20 hours per week over 34 weeks. It’s designed for students who need a highly-supportive environment in which to learn. The majority of, but not all, students on this course will have attended a special school or unit, or have missed a significant amount of schooling.
What do I need?
You must already be at Level P5 or above before joining. You must be willing to take part in new learning opportunities and to improve your literacy, numeracy and social skills. You should also be committed to furthering your education.
What will I study?
ACE is designed to develop your social skills and work skills, preparing you for independent living, so it covers a broad range of subjects. You’ll study English, Maths and ICT, work-related skills and Independence Living Skills, supported by IT. There will also be opportunities for Personal Development options, depending on your individual interests.
You’ll be taught in small groups and you will be set targets to achieve. Both your targets and your progress will be monitored regularly in tutorial sessions.
We’ll assess your individual needs at your initial interview, and if necessary, will arrange additional support to help you achieve your learning goals.
What can I do next?
You may be able to progress to other Supported Learning courses, such as Next Steps or Towards Independence; or on to Foundation Learning programmes, work-based training, or employment.
