Revealing what parents would really like to know…


The all-important questions you’d really like to ask: What happens after the application form is sent in?


You’ll find the application form at the back of this course directory. Your son or daughter should complete and return it, which will then register their interest with Northampton College. Once we’ve processed it, our Enrolment Team will contact your son or daughter in writing, inviting them to attend an interview at the College.


Acknowledgement will be sent via email for online applications and via mail for hard-copy applications within ten working days of receipt. Interview letters will be sent within eight weeks.


What if my daughter or son changes their mind about the course they’ve chosen?


Making a decision about what you want to study when you’re aged 16+ is not always easy and we understand that sometimes students do change their mind. If your daughter or son feels they may have made a wrong decision and would like to change to another course, we will do everything we can to accommodate their wishes.


How different is college life to school life?


College offers a more adult environment than school, providing a good stepping stone between school and higher education or work. Your daughter or son will meet people of all ages and from all backgrounds, studying for academic and vocational qualifications. We provide a caring, supportive environment, enabling them to complete their studies safely and securely.


Is the College open to all ages?


Yes, we welcome students of all ages, from those in the 16 - 19 age group through to mature students. Our course provision includes an extensive choice of full and part-time academic and vocational programmes.


Who monitors my daughter’s/son’s progress?


At the start of their course, every student is allocated a Personal Tutor, who will take responsibility for your daughter or son’s progress and development. This is the person your daughter or son should go to for help, advice and support throughout their studies. Each student meets regularly with their Personal Tutor to decide on their learning targets, to discuss their progress and to implement an Individual Learning Plan (ILP).


Who do they go to if they have a problem?


Your daughter or son can go to their Personal Tutor if they have a problem, who will always be on hand to offer help and advice. A free and confidential counselling service is also available to all our students, giving them the opportunity to discuss anything that they may be concerned about. Our Student Services Team will provide information and advice, to both potential and existing students, on any issues relating to student welfare and the financial support available while they’re at college.


What if they need extra support?


All students are asked to say on their application form if they have a learning difficulty or disability. They will be offered the opportunity to meet with a member of the Additional Support team to discuss support for their college studies. The College also assesses all students before they start their course and will offer any additional support needed. If you have any concerns about any learning difficulty or disability, you or your daughter or son should contact the Additional Support Team.


Our libraries offer a fantastic range of resources and facilities, and will support students in their studies and personal and professional development. Learning Assistants are available to help with independent study. Student Mentors are also available, offering extra help and support on any issues that may be causing difficulty or interfering with a student’s studies, and they can be found in the Student Services Centres at Booth Lane and Daventry.
