How long? Two years

What do I need?

A Level 3 qualification providing sufficient UCAS points to satisfy the entry requirements of The University of Northampton, usually equivalent to one A Level at Grade D.

What will I study?

Ever wondered who’s behind the animation of moving images and adverts on web pages? Or the colours and intricate designs used on flashy websites? Ever wanted to know how a photographer managed to make that shot look so colourful, vivid and futuristic? Well this comprehensive course will tell you how by introducing you to the key concepts and practices used in digital media design.

The HND Interactive Digital Media explores a range of digital subject matter, giving you practical knowledge and skills in a number of different areas such as design, photography, typography, sound formation and image manipulation, using state-of-the-art computer software and related peripheral media. It is ideal for those who want to make a career in the growing digital media industry, which demands people who have well- rounded creative and technical abilities. The course is therefore biased towards an exploratory approach, with a key emphasis on good design practice.

You will be exposed to the latest design technologies within an arts- based environment, where units will be delivered within a vocational context. Year 1 acts as an introduction to software and multimedia concepts whilst the second year further supports and develops skills in these areas through a wide range of design project work. You

are free to focus on the specialist areas that interest you, ranging from animation techniques, audio-visual practices, internet design, and moving images to digital illustration, photography, art-related computer applications and multimedia web authoring.

Perhaps the most exciting element of the course is the opportunity in the second year for you to work collaboratively on a professional team brief in an external media environment. Here, you will work as an official team member in a professional company, giving you a unique chance to put your knowledge into practice on a specific project.
