CONTENTS Life as a student Enjoy student life to the full
Student life is not just about studying. It’s also about making new friends, relaxing and socialising. Here at Northampton College, we have a campus environment with ‘real life’ resources that include cafeterias and our own Students’ Union – giving you every opportunity to really make the most of the facilities provided for you.
Students’ Union
When you join the College as a full-time student, you’ll automatically become a member of the Students’ Union. This is an organisation designed to promote the interests and welfare of college students, and its officers are elected through a democratic process (which means they’ve been voted in by other students). We have a vibrant Students’ Union, which organises many trips and events, providing you with a great social life, and you can also take part in fund-raising activities. The SU is always looking for students to help with their activities.
You’ll also enjoy a wide range of benefits on production of your Students’ Union card, such as reduced prices in many stores. The new-look NUS Extra Card offers an even greater range of discounts and this is available from
www.nus.org.uk/en/nus-extra at a cost of £11.
For further information, please contact the Students’ Union on 01604 734 031.
Course Representatives
We believe it’s very important to listen to what our students have to say. To ensure we do this, we ask every full-time programme to elect a Course Representative. All Course Representatives then meet with their Curriculum Managers and the Student Services Team, through the Listen2Students and other college forums, to raise any issues about college life. This provides a great opportunity for elected individuals to represent the interests of their fellow students, and to make sure their voice is heard in the College. In addition, we also ask students to help with the evaluation and development of their Individual Learning Plans. The College hosts an annual conference for students where representatives get together to meet the Principal and discuss issues which affect them.
In addition, the student body has the opportunity to elect two student governors who will liaise with the Students’ Union and the College Management Team, representing students’ interests.
Student Enrichment
As a full-time student, you’re entitled to take part in the Enrichment Programme as part of your programme of study. This programme is designed to reflect the activities that you want to take part in, and so your ideas for new activities are welcome. The types of activities we offer include:
• Sports including Football, Basketball, Netball and Cricket • First Aid • Music • Driving Test Theory • Street Dance • Fitness Centre • Christian Union • Islamic Union • Sign Language • Citizenship.
If you are interested in taking part in any of these activities, you can contact Student Services or email enrichment@
