OUT & ABOUT A new season at French Bay

Titirangi builder Peter Channings has been elected Commodore of French Bay Yacht Club. His goal is to build on the

work done in recent years to inject fun, enthusiasm and vibrancy back into the French Bay sailing fleet. Peter has lived much of

his life in Titirangi, growing up in a sailing family who were active members of the club. He remembers the days when French Bay Beach and the area which is now the carpark would be lined with at least 50 boats on both days of every sailing weekend. While these days the fleet is smaller, it is every bit as much fun. “I want to revive it, make it grow into a sustainable yacht club with a very good junior and senior fleet,” he says. Supporting Peter are Vice Commodore Matt Hall-Smith, and Rear Commodore Don Waterer, Treasurer Don McBeth, and Secretary Paddy

Charles, and a team of hard working volunteers who lead the club’s Learn to Sail programme and racing and fun days for all ages. Are you or your kids keen to try sailing but not really sure what’s involved? Or interested to get back into the sport after time away, or just want to get involved and help out? French Bay

Yacht Club will hold an Open Day on Sunday October 10 at 11.30am, rain or shine. Club members will tell you about sailing at French Bay, provide advice on getting into a boat and becoming involved with the club, and, if you wish, give you an opportunity to try sailing or kayaking in a fun, safe environment.
