“Thumbs up to AS, the after school program substitute tutor, who came to Litchfield Middle School last week. Great job, hope you come back!”
“Thumbs down to the Chief of Police. The former
chief always used a former police cruiser for his mode of transportation. In these tough economic times why do you feel you need an over priced vehicle (forty thousand dollars) to drive from your house in Hudson to the police station. If it was good enough for the previous chief for all those years why do you need to spend our tax money needlessly?”
“Thumbs up to Ms. Hanley. Thank you for being ‘firm, fair, and honest when dealing with us’. You are doing an awesome job and we are proud to have you at Alvirne HS… Go Broncos!”
“Thumbs down to people who go hiking in the green mountains alone and without the proper equipment. (A cell phone is not proper equipment.) Hiking is a wonderful way to get up close and personal with nature and good for your health as well, but do it with a friend and carry the equipment you need to protect yourself in bad weather, enough food and water to sustain yourself and bring a map and compass to find your way back out to the place you left your car. A GPS would be nice, but have the map and compass as a backup. Do it for yourself and for your loved ones. People should not have to search for you if you are stupid.”
“Thumbs down to the Bears 4U coach. Two weeks in a row we have lost by one point due to the way you are coaching the team in the second half of the game. Just because you are winning in the beginning and doing good, doesn’t mean you should get cocky and full of yourself. It is proving you fail!!! You have got great talented players on this team, play them, use them, you will win!!!”
Monday: Slice of Pizza
at Fox Hollow for speaking up in the Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down section of the newspaper. Unfortunately, this is the only place we can be heard and it’s becoming obvious. The Fox Hollow newsletter came out today, with a whole section criticizing the individuals who are voicing their opinions as well as boosting the egos of the board even high. Who wrote that article?? Board members?? Management who is governed by the board? Drive through Fox Hollow - it’s definitely not the lovely area it use to be and for that reason among many others - property values are going down.”

Seniors organization has come to fruition because of their hard work and dedication. They are officially meeting every third Thursday of the month at the Litchfield Church next to the Fire Station. Great speakers, great meetings.”
“Thumbs up to the newly organized Litchfield Seniors Group for organizing one of the best Yard Sales ever in Litchfield. You go, senior girls and guys.”
“Thumbs up to the citizens
of Litchfield for voting to keep the Adult Learning night classes in the budget. Research shows that learning new things helps keep the brain healthy. Tai Chi, woodworking, a new language anyone?”

Litchfield Board of Education for thoughtfully prioritizing, presenting and defending in a very positive way their recommendations for spending some of the dollars returned to Litchfield from the State, ... while designating the remaining healthy amount to lower our tax rate. I think many Boards of Education would not have been as accountable to their constituents. Great work!”

Litchfield for the huge turnout to support the Litchfield School District and voting to approve all Article proposals. As one voter so eloquently said, we have incredible schools and programs. Our sports teams are amazing. And the night classes for our adult and senior populations did not become a sacrificial lamb and get eliminated. We are lucky to live in a truly caring, small town. Gotta love it!”

“Thumbs down, way down to the whiney contributors to this column. Build a bridge and get over yourselves. Sorry your kid can’t get their grades up to drive, get a tutor! Sorry that your kid had to ride a bus too long, get it a bike! Sorry your kids got stranded at Bensons, where were you?”

“Thumbs down to Mr. Lane for not allowing the club Bronco Backers to stay after school, with adult supervision, more than one day a week. Why all of a sudden? This club does a lot for that school, you should be grateful these kids are volunteering to do so much around the school, during their own

time, sometimes including weekends. Why are you picking on the Bronco Backers and no other club or sport?”
“Thumbs down. This downward facing digit is
for all you people out there who think that driving 5-10 miles an hour below the speed limit on route 3A, 102 or anywhere is a good idea. We were stuck behind someone doing less than 30 in 40 MPH zone for several miles the other day.
If
you think you’re saving gas you are wrong. You are driving around in 2nd or 3rd gear wasting gas and the time of the long line of people behind you. Try being a considerate person and pulling over to let that long line of cars behind you pass so they can drive the normal speed. Better yet, wait until the rest of us who have to get to work or come home have gone and go out in the middle of the day when traffic is lighter.”
“Thumbs down. We at Shepherd’s Hill offer our sympathy to our neighbors. Fox Hollow obviously has numerous ongoing problems, which probably won’t be resolved. Our Home Owner’s Association is the best. Come on over.”
“Thumbs down to the people who hide behind a computer and write negative things about our football coaches. If you have a problem, go talk to the head coach. Don’t just sit behind your computer complaining. Show your kids how to take responsibility and how to deal with life’s issues instead of just hiding and pointing fingers. Anyone can sit at home or on the sidelines talking bad about coaches, but what good does that do for the program? Grow up! If you see something you are concerned with ask the coaches why are doing it that way. These coaches spend countless hours preparing themselves and our kids so that they can have a good season doing a sport that they love. Great job coaches, team parents and BOD! Go Bears!!!!”
“Thumbs up to the 4U Hudson-Litchfield Bears for a terrific 26-0 win on Sunday. You boys and girls showed discipline, desire and heart in that

win. As your head coach, I am very proud of all of you! Let’s keep working hard, staying disciplined and most of all, having fun. If we do that we will have a great run from here on out. Thanks to the parents who support us! As coaches, we appreciate your support, loyalty and dedication to your kids. Also, thank to our team mom and team manager for doing a great job! Now, lets go out there and win a lot more football games!!!!”
“Thumbs up to a town Selectman for quote, ‘hiring an assistant town administrator to clean the town’ at an unbelievable salary. Bensons needs cleaning, animal waste. How about doing this task?!! Mr. Selectman Chairman of the Board of Hudson, thank you for helping the people of this town of Hudson and others. You are our only voice and support.”
“Thumbs down to six or
seven cars parking on the grass outside the Griffin Memorial School on 3A again this year. An accident is waiting to happen when they back up to leave. I’ve seen near misses prevented by cars on 3A quickly having to stop. These cars are near a fence, are near a fire hydrant, prevent the grass from growing, prevent it from being cut, and there are bare spots from the cars making ruts. Park in the lot and let the grass grow beautiful again, as it was before school started. You almost also could save a life.”
“Thumbs down to the thumbs down regarding the restaurant
on Lowell Road. There are several restaurants there on Lowell Road, and your comments hurt all of them. You really should be more specific.”
Thumbs up to our new Hudson Town Dump located at 4 Summer Avenue. I know they accept scrap metal, washing machines, dryers, fencing, oil cans, scrap cars and assorted junk under several parts, but are they open on Saturday?”
“Thumbs down to the parents of 4th grade Hudson Football. That was the most horrendous behavior of any parents I have ever seen in my entire life. If it’s not bad enough that the 4th grade team was up by 25-7 at half time, but then the parents are still screaming obscenities at the kids and trying to charge some of the people doing their jobs on the lines, just for speaking their own mind and egging on their own kids. Thumbs down to any and all parents who make it worse for the rest of them.”
“Thumbs down to Sweaty for being a back- stabber to my poor friend Rob. Get your own life and stop harassing Rob for no reason. He is the sweetest boy you will ever meet and has done nothing to deserve what you have done to him. Grow up and stop acting like a fool.”
“Thumbs down to the Hudson School Board for hiring another tutor. This time for the business manager. The third top official in the system. Are you sure it should not have been a paraprofessional. “
