BBC Children in Need - A Strategic Partnership for RIBI
It has been said, many times, that Rotary forgets to ‘sell’ itself. This year, there is an opportunity to overcome that issue whilst also changing the lives of thousands of children across Great Britain and Ireland, doing what Rotary clubs do best: helping communities by working in partnership.

Rotary clubs have a wonderful chance to showcase their efforts through a range of media opportunities. It is estimated that clubs collected
over £50K in 2010, many working with locally supported children’s charities. BBC Children in Need want to recognise this help and the participation of Rotary clubs by offering local and national marketing and PR opportunities. These will only be achieved by Rotary clubs creating eye- catching and media-worthy events and sharing the news with district community and vocational chairs, as well as the district marketing, PR and communications chairs. I know that some Rotarians feel Rotary
should not support national charities but here is a quote from one Rotarian who recently wrote in: “I’m not a believer in Rotary supporting Children in Need. In our

map.shtml, and click on your area. I was staggered by the range of local community needs supported and, I’m ashamed to say, many I was not even aware of. It seems that CiN does get to the heart of our communities.” Rotary and Pudsey fundraising packs
have been sent to your district and contain resources to help plan events. To help a little further, BBC Children in Need is supplying Pudsey pin-badges and key- rings to Rotary clubs at cost price. This selected merchandise is then sold on at the recommended donation level. All you have to do is bank the funds raised using the special paying-in slip found in your pack. Every penny raised goes to projects which help disadvantaged children and young people, right here in our

local communities. It is easy to make a difference!
Misbourne Matins Rotary club, with the help of neighbouring clubs, will be showing their spots and raising lots at Heathrow Airport Terminal 5. Last year, they raised £13K! There is a boxing event being held in Croydon, cabaret and auction nights are planned in Exmoor and a Halloween event in Horsham is taking shape. Rotarians have even dressed as Pudsey and gone to carnivals and beach parties, so you really can get creative when it comes to getting your club involved! Show your spots and let’s raise lots
