local schoolchildren playing drums, singing and carrying torches to symbolise The Lake District Tree of Light. The procession is being organised by New Arts North and the music has been written especially for the occasion. For every £10.00 donation made, the
donor will have the opportunity of writing a short personal message which will appear in a Book of Celebration on the website. The name being celebrated or
remembered will also be displayed in the local newspaper and on a notice board at the foot of the tree. The donor will also receive an attractive
festive card in acknowledgement and appreciation of their generosity. Many of us hold fond memories of
the Lake District so what better way to celebrate that memory than to donate to The Lake District Tree of Light. For further information and to make a

During her year of office the club raised just over £9,000 for various good causes including a sum of £4,000 that was presented to a representative of MacMillan Cancer Support on the evening. Just over £3,000 of the total amount raised by the club during the year was in fact raised by members of the club entertaining guests with carol singing at the Hotel in the seven weeks before Christmas when Warners hold Turkey ‘n’ Tinsel Breaks. n

ollowing in the footsteps of RI Past President John Kenny in Palestine, December 2010, was
David Mitchell, IPP of the Rotary Club of Oban, District 1230, who visited the new Rotary Club of Ramallah in the occupied Palestinian territories. That was President Dr. Samir Abdullah’s
observation in welcoming David, who visited the club on 8th December and who brought the greetings of the members of the Oban club to a very enjoyable and welcoming meeting of the Ramallah club. During October, November and December of 2010, David was domiciled in the Palestinian territories, the West Bank, as an international observer, sent by the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel, an offshoot of the World Council of Churches. Dr Abdullah had noted that John Kenny,
the Scottish RI President, who visited the club in late May to present the club’s historic Charter, the first in the West Bank since 1980, was the first and David the second visitor from Scotland. He looked forward to welcoming many more visitors from Great Britain and Ireland to Palestine and to their club and promised them a fascinating and enlightening experience. More than 150 Rotarians and guests, including, RI PP John Kenny and RI Director, Phil Silvers, gathered on 30 May to celebrate the charter of the Rotary Club of Ramallah, the first club in Palestine for three decades.
