HOW MUCH SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS CAN SUPERSTAR RONALDO SMASH?

‘They asked if the glassmaker could design, test and supply a glass demo rig that would show the power of Ronaldo’s 80mph strike to dramatic effect.’

Saint-Gobain Glass UK’s engineers have designed a special glass rig to show the incredible skills of Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in a special programme being aired extensively on Sky Sports.

The documentary shows what makes Ronaldo one

of the best footballers of his generation by taking an in-depth look at the skills and strength that set him apart.

The programme explores the concepts of mental and physical strength through a series of intensive tests, one of which was created with the assistance of SGG UK’s engineers.

SGG UK was approached by a production company who knew of their involvement with the BBC’s Richard Hammond’s Engineering Connections programme. They asked if the

glassmaker could design, test and supply a glass demo rig that would show the power of Ronaldo’s 80mph strike to dramatic effect. The SGG UK Engineering team came up with a solution that provided the ‘ultimate test’ of how many sheets he could break, to spectacular visual-effect.

Due to Ronaldo's busy schedule the filming had

to take place in Madrid near the football stadium, where the rig and glass had to be sent. There a team from SGG Spain took over to set up and supervise the demonstration so the UK team was ultimately denied the opportunity of meeting the superstar!

The programme initially goes out on Sky Sports 1 and 2 on the 8th September and is repeated many times over the folowing weeks.

PLANITHERM’S ‘PAM’AND ‘VERN’TO CHAT ONWERS

Continuing the soap-style theme of the PLANITHERM TV campaign being broadcast to millions of homeowners up and down the country, the latest ads centre on star ‘Pam’ and her husband ‘Vern’ discussing the benefits of PLANITHERM glass for their new windows.

The latest TV commercials, showing throughout

September and October, show Pam and Vern discussing Window Energy Ratings at home, excitedly chatting about the possibilities as they move towards the replacement of their old windows. The advertisement is designed to drive viewers to the PLANITHERM website, which lists installers that have signed up to the PLANITHERM Network.

The campaign, staged by Saint-Gobain Glass to promote PLANITHERM glass and stimulate sales of energy efficient replacement windows for UK installers, is believed to be the most ambitious and comprehensive consumer and trade advertising

and marketing campaign to have been undertaken by a glass manufacturer in the UK.

With funding provided by Scottish and Southern Energy through the CERT (Carbon Emissions Reduction Target) initiative, homeowners are learning about high performance glass and how replacing their windows can make significant savings on their energy bills whist reducing their carbon footprint.

The campaign, which is expected to run at least until 2013, also includes press and online advertising, directing all leads generated to PLANITHERM Network registered installers, thus providing a powerful stimulus to the market.

“Whilst we are obviously driving sales of PLANITHERM glass, the most energy efficient available, the TV advertising and other elements of the campaign are clearly having a very positive effect on the market,” explains Craig Dodsworth, Residential Market Manager for Saint-Gobain Glass. “The face of the replacement window

industry is changing with the help of the PLANITHERM advertisements, from a simple home improvement to a very credible and effective means of saving energy.

He added: “There is now very real justification to homeowners for changing older double-glazing as the latest high performance windows are dramatically more efficient.”
