KITFIX SIMPLIFIES TIMBER FRAME FENESTRATION FOR FASTER BUILDS

Designed specifically for off-site manufacturing, the new patented KitFix System – exclusively from Sidey, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of windows and doors – enables timber frame kit manufacturers to install fully glazed, fully finished windows and doors into their panels as part of the production cycle which can then be stacked, stored and transported as normal.

Sidey’s KitFix System means the fenestration can be installed on the horizontal, so that the windows and doors sit fully protected within the depth of the panel during transportation and erection before being slid out to the first fix position. The results are faster construction times, simpler supply chains and reduced costs.

In the factory, KitFix brackets are twist-fitted

to the window or door frames at pre-determined centres. Air tightness, thermal and acoustic seals can also be integrated. The window or door is simply lowered into the opening and the bracket screwed to the external face of the panel, securing the fenestration in its transportation position so panels can be stacked, banded and loaded normally.

NEW ‘CONTEMPORARY’ COMPOSITE DOORS FROM PHOENIX DOOR PANELS

Phoenix Door Panels, one of the UK’s largest domestic replacement door manufacturers, has added three new contemporary designs to its County Collection range of composite doors.

The Hampshire, Hertfordshire and Dorset

Ranges enhance the existing comprehensive choice of styles with a modern twist and touch of ‘European flair’ suitable for all types of homes.

Four glazed offset panels in the Hampshire Range

accept leaded, sandblasted, bevel or ‘funky’ Fusion designs for an overall creative effect. The Dorset style features two offset glazed panels to illuminate the interior, while affording a degree of privacy.

The Hertfordshire doors owe their distinctive appearance to slanted glazed tops. These ‘eyebrow’ shapes form a strong visual focal point, which is complemented with a wide range of interesting glazing options.

National Sales Manager Haydon Statham says: “Changing consumer tastes and lifestyles

have inspired us to introduce these innovative ‘variations on a theme’ that provide our customers with attractive additional selling opportunities and wider choice for homeowners.

“Entrance door design must move with the times and not all UK dwellings are houses in the ‘traditional’ sense,” he continues. “Townhouses, waterside properties or marina developments are just some examples of 21st century homes where owners are increasingly aspiring to doors that reflect their lifestyles or complement their properties.”

Haydon adds: “As ‘designer’ additions, these new doors further extend our bespoke door options - along with some exciting fresh colours and glazing selections - to keep our product portfolio right up-to-date.”

On-site, once the timber panel has been erected,

the window or door is checked to ensure it is plumb and square; and then easily and quickly pushed to its first fix position using the unique sliding action of the KitFix bracket and secured by inserting a fixing through each spigot of the bracket.

Savings not only come from the reduction in

breakages, site damage, but the significant time saved – windows and doors are factory-fitted in less than three minutes and final fixed in less than two!

Using KitFix, buildings can be made wind and watertight in one day without any need for

scaffolding adjustment – step-ups, for instance – and follow on trades can start sooner. This all results in savings on site prelims thanks to the faster build time.

Since there is no need to store doors and windows on site there is no danger of theft or arson and the reduction in manual handling also significantly cuts the number of health and safety issues to be dealt with. Similarly, site traffic, for example, is reduced because there are no door and window deliveries. Off-site fabrication also means improved quality though controlled conditions and improved supervision.
