Tea Tree Oil For All Your

Healing Needs Herbs ‘n Such, by Mimi Tagher T

EA TREE OIL is most commonly found as a pure es- sential oil. It is also an ingredient in creams, ointments, lotions, soaps, and shampoos. Widely known as a great

antiseptic, most people don't know some of the other miracle cures for which tea tree oil is known. Historically, the leaves were used as a substitute for tea,

which is how tea tree oil got its name. The oil from the leaves is the part that is used medicinally, which is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves. Tea tree oil contains terpenoids, a diverse class of naturally

occurring organic chemicals, which have been found to have antiseptic and antifungal activity. The compound terpinen-4-ol is the most abundant and is thought to be responsible for most of tea tree oil's antimicrobial activity. Tea tree oil has been proven to be a powerful and natural

antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal oil. It is used as a very effective first aid remedy against countless skin ailments, infec- tions, cuts, scrapes, burns, and insect bites. It is not just sooth- ing and disinfecting, it is capable of penetrating into the lower skin layers with its anti-inflammatory properties. It also promotes sweating - which enhances the body's own

natural preventative response when threatened by infection. In addition, tea tree oil is used for acne, nail fungus, warts, lice, mites, scabies, athlete’s foot, ringworm, dandruff, boils, vaginal infections, recurrent herpes labialis, toothache, infections of the mouth and nose, sore throat, and for ear infections. It can even

be added to bath water to treat cough, bronchial congestion, and pulmonary inflammation.

Nail fungus: 100% tea tree oil solution applied twice daily for six months.

Athlete’s foot: 25% - 50% tea tree oil solution applied twice daily for at least one month or tea tree oil 10% cream ap-

plied twice daily. Acne: 5% tea tree oil gel applied daily. 0

Warts: dab the wart and surrounding area with the oil throughout the day. Eventually the area will dry out and the wart will loose its blood supply.
