Technogym goes from strength to strength

In the last year, Technogym has celebrated huge success in the university sector, with the Edge at the University of Leeds its flagship project

The Edge, the University of Leeds’ purpose-built sports facility, is certainly setting a new standard for university provision.

With 192 stations of equipment, the Edge caters for everyone, and Technogym has worked hard with the University to ensure ev- ery centimetre of floor is utilised to provide a unique space for students, staff and the wider community.

ADDED VALUE It does not matter what level or experience gym-users have, Technogym’s vast portfolio of products means there is something for everyone to enjoy. Facilities at the Edge include treadmills, four

different types of cross trainer, bikes and upper body ergometers, which are all fitted with Visio computers. The 15 or 19–inch screens take health and fitness provision to a whole new level, and allow the user to:

● Access the web ● Play on pre-installed games to work the mind and the body ● Charge iPods through an iPod dock, which enables users to watch their favou- rite videos as they work out, controlled through the touch screen ● For those without an iPod, USB media works in the same way ●Watch in excess of 40 channels of TV and listen to over 40 channels of digital music, which is streamed via coax cable or IPTV – with the HD screen, the picture quality is out of this world.

EXTENSIVE RANGE This technology is complemented by an im- pressive range of kit, such as Technogym’s Selection Line resistance equipment. Widely considered the benchmark of excellence within the health and fitness industry, the

Edge accommodates most of the range. Its effective Biomechanics means the user can workout quicker and balance the body through the independent arm action on the upper body pieces. With its 360-degree movement and

attachments, Kinesis allows users to do absolutely anything, from sporting action to functional movement for rehabilitation. It shows people a new way of training that is fun and effective and by adding a personal trainer to the equipment, the return on investment is excellent. A challenge faced by all university health

and fitness facilities is catering to 18-22 year-olds who want to push iron. Tech- nogym’s answer is Pure Strength, which has been developed in conjunction with Olympic athletes at the Olympic Village and Technogym’s research and development facility, which employees 150 full-time staff.
