Beauty in breadth at Bromsgrove

WE had a long debate over “Breadthellence,”

but, frankly, it’s as good a word as any to describe the offer of one of Britain’s oldest and largest independent schools.

Utterly dedicated to the individual pupil, despite its size, Bromsgrove shuns public school drones and instead looks to produce creative citizens with a strong moral compass and a dash of pizzazz to boot. We are currently halfway through

a unique path to success 

the biggest build programme in the school’s 500-year history, and although buildings are not the be all and end all (great teachers should be able to run a super school in a pig sty), Bromsgrove’s facilities are being enhanced on an unprecedented and truly spectacular scale. OFSTED are bound by the

school… with a fantastically global perspective.” And so on. But it’s all froth on a marketeer’s

daydream unless the pupils are happy, focused and keen to make a difference for the better. They are. One thousand six hundred of them from two to 18 years old. Thirteen hundred are British but another 300 from 35 nations around the world make Bromsgrove unique. Ancient but as contemporary

vocabulary of apparatchik convention, but last year they once again gave us their highest accolade: “outstanding”. The Good Schools Guide, less

prosaically, says we “inhabit the academic stratosphere” and lauds our titanic extra curricular programme as one of the finest it has seen, while the Tatler’s Good School Guide called us a “Great

as tomorrow, Bromsgrove’s scope is staggering: from A level to the International Baccalaureate, day to boarding, the arts to sport, pupils can soar. Friendly, engaging and –

despite its ranking – not driven by league tables, Bromsgrove is a local, national and international centre of learning. You will receive the warmest of welcomes should you visit. As a footnote: Tatler also called

us “a breath of fresh air.” We liked that.

And we hope you will too.

Appleford’s expertise in dyslexia

APPLEFORD School was established in 1988 by two experts in the field: Gerald Trump, who founded the first school for dyslexic children in the UK; and Dr Peter Gardner, a highly-qualified and experienced psychologist and psychotherapist. Appleford’s aim is to provide a high-quality education for children

aged seven to 14 with dyslexia and associated learning difficulties to include dyscalculia, dyspraxia, ASD and ADHD. To this end the school only accepts children with an appropriate assessment from an Educational Psychologist and/or a statement of special educational needs. The school is a co-educational day and boarding school, and warmly

welcomes applications from children of families in the Services. Appleford wants its children to realise their full potential and to

develop self-respect, self-reliance and self-discipline. The school aspires to return children to mainstream education where possible.
