A SIMPLE WAY TO SAVE ELECTRICITY THIS WINTER A lighting revolution is happening that could end, at the flick of a switch, the battle

between supporters of conventional bulbs and fans of the eco-friendly variety. Affordable light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs that produce brilliant light but use very little electricity are becoming widely available in a variety of formats to offer an alternative to traditional filament and halogen bulbs.

They are 12 times more efficient than conventional bulbs and even three times more efficient than the unpopular compact fluorescent (CFL) low-energy versions. Even better, the bulbs provide their full light immediately unlike the CFL type. Switching to LED bulbs could reduce your household lighting costs by 80%.. As well as longer life; an anticipated 50,000 hours, the LED bulbs do not contain mercury so their eventual disposal has less potential to harm the environment. Given the ever spiralling cost of electricity, changing to a reliable, lower cost form of lighting makes perfect sense. LED bulbs typically pay for themselves within 12 months and will then go on saving you money for tens of years beyond that. As the darker mornings and evenings approach, why not invest in some LED bulbs and start reducing the size of your electricity bills?
