Discount Plans 10% Discount:

1. Freelances funding their own training.

2. Small business discount if company has 20 or fewer employees. 3. Charity discount if organisation is a registered charity.

4. New recruit discount for those who have been working in a publishing company for six months or less.

5. Early booking discount for residential course bookings made at least eight weeks before the start of the course.

6. Team discount where you book more than one delegate from your organisation on the same course and on the same date: 10% off for the 2nd and 3rd delegates and 15% off for the 4th delegate. All team members must be booked at the same time to benefit from this discount.

Note that it’s only possible to take advantage of one of these discount schemes for any one booking. The only exception concerns the early booking discount, which may be combined with the team discount, up to a maximum of 20% per delegate.

Please ask for your discount when you book as discounts cannot be given retrospectively.

Discretionary discounts for certain groups

If you’ve recently been made redundant from a publishing job or are a recent, unemployed graduate interested in working in publishing, then we may be able to offer you substantial discounts on short courses. Please contact us for details.

Other sources of funding The Unwin Charitable Trust Grant Scheme for Freelances and Small Publishers

The Unwin Charitable Trust has set up a grant scheme to help small companies and freelances pay for training courses offered by The Publishing Training Centre (PTC). The grant amount is £150 per person.

Eligibility and restrictions:

• Applicants must have been freelancing or trading as a small publishing company for a minimum of two years.

• Companies must have no more than ten staff, including part-time and directors, and not be part of a larger or umbrella organisation.

• To be used on Publishing Training Centre short courses only.

• Grants limited to one per individual in a 12-month period. Companies are limited to two grants in the same period, but these cannot be for the same person.

• Grants cannot be allocated once the invoice is raised – you must request this grant at the time of booking.

• Unwin Charitable Trust grants cannot be used in conjunction with any other grant or assisted funding scheme administered by PTC.

How to apply:

Make a provisional booking on any PTC short course, at least 21 days before the course starts and request an Unwin Charitable Trust Grant at the time of booking. Return the course registration form as soon as possible to confirm your place. You’ll be invoiced for the course fee (incorporating 10% small company or freelance discount) minus the £150 grant, approximately three weeks before the course start.

The Book Trade Charity

The Book Trade Charity offers funding to people who have worked in publishing or bookselling but are currently unemployed. Call 01329 848 731.

We first confirm that there are places left on the course(s) and date(s) you want. We then send a registration form for you to complete for each delegate. Three to four weeks before the course we will send joining instructions and an invoice.

Cancellations

We appreciate that you may have to cancel a booking. Please be sure to confirm a cancellation in writing. There are cancellation charges, details of which will be included with your registration form.

Where are the courses held?

The majority of our short courses are held in Wandsworth, London, and our residential courses are held in Oxfordshire.

We are committed to improving our courses. We therefore reserve the right to make changes to content, venues, etc. We will give you as much advance notice as possible of any changes we make.

Course discounts and funding

Please ensure that you include your request for any discounts or funding that you would like to apply for at the time of booking.
