ew bands, new venues, a new promotion for businesses and a new competition for festival fans... Yes, Steve Darrington has been busy again, organising the 5th Swanage Blues & Roots Festival for October.
New acts include Rhythm Zoo and their blend of sultry female vocals and cool jazz sax; co-founder of The Jam, Steve Brookes and his band, featuring local bass legend Willie Bath; and the wild and unpredictable Worried Men.
There are more non-pub venues including the Funworld Café, which will be hosting mid-morning sessions by acoustic artists during the organiser’s Meet and Greet sessions.
Restaurants are reporting heavy advance bookings for stars such as Radio 2 favourite Sonny Black and ex-Adam Ant band member Kris Dollimore.
“To see many of these artists elsewhere would usually cost £10 or more each!” said organiser Steve Darrington. “So a weekend of free admission with the backdrop of Swanage and all its charm is a real bargain!”
For the first time there will be a festival competition. Keen photographers are invited to submit their pictures with an aim to winning one of the cash prizes on offer.
There’s a new business promotion too. Fans can buy a £3 wristband that entitles them to certain discounts for the duration of the festival. Any business can participate as long as they offer at least one discount item to wristband wearers.
Businesses aren’t charged to take part, are included free in the festival programme and get free posters to advertise their offer.
