Craig C. Worsham ‘96 of Hurt, is a captain with the Virginia State Police and commands the property and finance division in Richmond.
Angie Babcock Bell ‘97 of Vinton, married Steve Bell March 13, 2004. They have one daughter Kelsey (3), and are expecting their second child. Angie received her master’s in counseling psychology from Radford University in 1999 and a LPC license in 2004.
Kenneth Campbell ‘97 of Geismer, La., is the president of The Black Alliance for Educational Options. He and his wife Shelia Campbell ‘97 and their son live near Baton Rouge.
Mark Deutsch ‘97 of Richmond, is the director of sales and marketing with Dietitians on Demand, a leading provider of Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist staffing solutions.
Heather Hudson McDowell ‘97 of Vernon Hill, teaches business at Gretna Middle School.
Michael K. Reynolds ‘97 of South Hill, is a physician with Southside Medical Management.
Dave Childress ‘98 of Tazewell, has been promoted to sales manager with Pyott-Boone Electronics (PBE) for the company’s North Tazewell operation. He joined PBE in January 2009 as a sales engineer.
Brenda LaFlamme West ‘98 of Danville, is the head softball coach for Averett University.
Vanessa Womack Easter ‘99 of Richmond, is the president of The SHED Group LLC, (Services to Help Entrepreneurs or Employees Develop). She is also the creator and host of the radio business talk show, “On Track with Vanessa Womack” in Richmond and a co-host on the Charlottesville Public Access show, “Working It Out with Nat Roman,” a discussion of work/life issues for professional women. Rick Johnson ‘99 of Blacksburg, has been named assistant vice president of housing and dining at Duke University.
Sherry Roosa Phelps ‘99 of Yanceyville, N.C., was recently promoted to assistant registrar at Averett. She has worked at the University for more than four years.

Torrey Dixon ‘00 of Raleigh, N.C., is an attorney with the North Carolina Department of Justice. Torrey is working with Danville Public Schools to offer a free extracurricular program annually for 40 to 50 students who show an interest in law. The program is called GAVEL, or “Government and Attorney Volunteers to Educate Future Lawyers.”
Michelle Hendrix Edwards ‘00 of Bracey, is a guidance counselor at Brother’s Keeper in Clarksville.
Timo Harkonen ‘00, ‘02 of Unicoi, Ky., is completing a master of divinity degree at Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky and is preparing for a trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa with his family.
Rebecca Braswell Stofko ‘00, ‘04 of Floyd Knobs, Ind., is the marketing manager at Morgan Foods.
Renee Wyatt-Chapline ‘01 of Disputanta, is executive director of Virginia’s Gateway Region, an economic development group.
Jay R. Davis ‘01 of Danville, is co-owner of Davis Motor Sales located next to Averett’s North Campus. Jay is the chapter advisor for the Zeta Xi chapter of Pi Kappa Phi at Averett.
Edward Hendel ‘01 of Adelphi, Md., is a first-year doctoral student in
applied research in special education at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Lonnie Martin ‘01 of Hawaii, volunteered for another tour of duty in Iraq with the United States Marine Corps. He was assigned to be the elections liaison and action officer on the Elections Division Staff for the U.S. Forces-Iraq. He says it was amazing to be a part of a budding democracy’s history, and it left him with a great appreciation of the freedom and democratic government that we enjoy every day.
Paul Farrar ‘02, ‘04 of Spencer, is coordinator of the Southside Tobacco Loan Forgiveness Program at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center.
L. Brantley Shields ‘02, ‘04 of Evergreen, is the ISS teacher and head boy’s basketball coach at Rustburg High School. He and his wife, Beth, have one daughter, Regan.
Michael B. Jones ‘03 of Danville, recently earned his doctorate of business administration from Nova Southeastern University. He is a manager of engineering for Intertape Polymer Corporation. Michael and his wife, Laura Norman Jones ‘87 have three children, Emma, Elliot and Virginia.
Laura Vollertsen Harkonen ‘03 of Unicoi, Ky., is a licensed pilot and is preparing for a mission trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa with Mission Aviation Fellowship along with her family.
