national parks this past summer. She also cruised to Alaska from San Francisco. This year she is looking forward to going to Egypt and Jordan to cruise the Nile, and then taking another cruise from Amsterdam through Berlin, Stockholm, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Russia, Estonia and Copenhagen.


celebrated 58 years of marriage. Mr. Schutt is involved in many community services, and Marilyn works from home as his administrative assistant. Marilyn also enjoys singing in a large community chorus and tap dancing at the senior center in her free time.


Frances Harper Powell ‘49 of Falls Church, is enjoying retirement. She is traveling abroad and across the nation.


Carolyn Hill Moseley ‘50 of Broadnax, is a retired piano teacher and fills in at her church when they need a pianist.


R. Gene Thompson ‘50 and Clarice Underwood Thompson ’50 of Wilmington, Del., attended their son Rob’s marriage to Debbie Tauros in Cape May, N.J., last May.


H. Charlotte Leary Small ’51 of Edenton, N.C., lost her husband of 57


years. She has four children and nine grandchildren.


Edith Jean Swanekamp Foley ’54 of Newport, Vt., attended her daughter’s wedding in New Hampshire in May 2010. She flew to North Carolina for her brother’s 60th wedding anniversary in June and went on a cruise to Mexico with her daughter and son-in-law in November.


Phyllis Amrhein Albrecht ’55 of Renton, Wash., lost her husband in June 2010.


Jane Tombes Mahoney ‘55 enjoys living in Boulder, Colo., with her husband, but her heart is still in Virginia. Jane says, “I still remember my happy days at Averett!”

Corinne Delaney Clark ‘57 of Hicksville, N.Y., and her husband Tom celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 29, 2011. Corinne is an officer in the Columbiettes Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, and Tom is a past Grand Knight. Since retirement, they have enjoyed traveling and are active in state and national politics.


Ann Collins Bitler ‘58 of Marietta, Ga., is enjoying another year of retirement and travel. She has two grandchildren in college.


Pamela Palmer Hanley ‘58 of Burlington, Vt., is the owner of three funeral homes and works full-time with her sons. She is also a partner in a funeral home in Richmond, Vt. Pamela spends a lot of her time with her two granddaughters (10 and 14) attending concerts and plays.
