Essay contest to award computer, software

SanTan Sun students ages 8 to 18 are invited to participate in the 12th annual Listen to a Life essay contest sponsored by the Legacy Project. The deadline to enter is March 30, 2012.

The Grand Prize is a Lenovo ThinkCentre computer. The winner’s school also receives $25,000 of EdOptions Orchard software, and 20 runner-up prizes include an MP3 player from EdOptions and $400 of software.

To participate, students must interview a grandparent or “grandfriend” 50 years or older about the person’s hopes and goals throughout life, how they achieved their goals, overcame obstacles or important life experiences. The student will then write a 300-word essay based on the interview.

“This contest gives children and older adults across the country the perfect excuse to sit down and get to know each other on another level,” says Legacy Project Chair Susan V. Bosak.

In exchange, neighbors provide a charitable contribution to the troop, which is used to help scouts attend troop activities and summer camps.
