SHELBY SUPERCAR (SSC) TUATARA Manufacturers of the Ultimate Aero, Shelby is about to bring us their next creation, the Tuatara. Teasing us by just releasing a selected number of images and only a small bit of information, so far we know that the car’s seven-speed gearbox has an exhilarating top speed of 270mph; just looking
at the car and you feel the butterflies swirling around in your stomach. Its
attractive streamline design, with a large blacked-out front windscreen, makes Tuatara look like something that has just driven out of an action movie. Even though the car is not on the market yet, it is expected to fall around the $970,000 price mark. If this model tickles your fancy, then you will have to move quickly as the company is already taking pre-orders as petrol heads fight to get first grabs.
LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR LP700-4 Making its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, it only took a couple of days for Lamborghini to announce that the Aventador LP700-4 had sold out for the next 18 months. It’s hardly surprising that the model received such a positive launch, as one of the most impressive points about the car is the updated 6.5 litre V12 engine, producing 700bhp. Its almighty strength enables the seven- speed gearbox to hit 60mph in a mere 2.9 seconds. With a top speed of 217mph, you just have to blink and
the car will have powered off into the distance. The model also features Lamborghini’s new ISR transmission, which is argued to be faster than a dual-clutch system. With all this new technology you may expect the model to be bulky but of course you’d be wrong. Its streamline design means that the whole car weighs in at a lean 3472lbs. Although this car may not quite squeeze your golf clubs in the boot, there is no question about it providing a stylish ride. You want it? You will have to wait in line with your $387,000.
ASTON MARTIN V12 ZAGATO
A tie-up between a British car manufacturer and an Italian design house was always going to bring us something to talk about, and this creation does not disappoint. Zagato’s influence on this model is clearly visible; for once it stands out from other Astons. In fact, they have gone to such extreme lengths to differentiate this model that they have grafted sheets of aluminum together by hand; the front wings alone feature seven pieces. This car’s top points feature in its design, when it comes to the statistics not a lot has changed from the V12 Vantage: it is powered by a V12 engine producing 510bhp and also features Aston’s
trademark double-bubble roof line. However, who would disagree that the extra effort put into the design was worth it? This is an object of beauty. With production expected to start in summer 2012, the V12 Zagato comes with a hefty price tag, expected to be around the $500,500 mark.
MERCEDES BENZ SLS AMG ROADSTER Designed and developed in parallel with the Coupe, according to Mercedes this car will provide “sensuous open-air driving pleasure.” Perfect for speed junkies, though admittedly not as fast as other cars on this list, the car’s 563bhp AMG V8 engine has a top speed of 197mph and has the ability to reach 60mph in a super fast 3.7 seconds. The stylish soft-top roof doesn’t let the speed side down either, opening and closing in just 11 seconds. With the Roadster, Mercedes has taken a step away from its regular design by removing its trademark gullwing doors, a risk that may be met with criticism by fans. What’s more, the perfectly sized boot means that your golf kit will fit snuggly in; you can just imagine the look on your fellow players’ faces when you turn up in this! However, if you fancy taking this beauty out for a spin then you better have $200,000 to hand. n
