s a confirmed cocktail addict, I start to feel a moon-like magnetic pull somewhere around the 15th
hole, and this strange sensation can start to tug even as early as the 13th. This doesn’t help my game any—to my game partners’ amusement. And it is, of course, the lure of the 19th hole where I can be found, at any one of the 32 TPCs where
I happen to be playing, enjoying a truly sensational selection of cocktails. So, let’s assume we’ve made it to the
watering hole and we are very much ready to be watered. I don’t know about you, but in the warmer regions of the West Coast or perhaps Florida, I do tend to favor the delicious fruit cocktails, and cocktail connoisseurs will know that different regions have their own favored and famous mixes. I recall, for instance, when playing in that gorgeous golf haven, the island of Bermuda, that it is was the beguiling Dark and Stormy—rum and ginger beer—that revived me at just the right time. More sophisticated, perhaps, is the Champagne cocktail (lump sugar in first) but take it easy, this mix can lay a heavy hand on your head the following day. As our national wit and raconteur Dorothy Parker quipped: “Three be the things I shall never attain: Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.” Is it any surprise that there is a cocktail named after this formidable literary femme fatale!
