Aliyah Awaits Gondar’s Beta Israel
We are living in exciting days, and Jewish Voice is privileged to participate in the fulfillment of Last Days Bible prophecy. Te restoration of Israel and the regathering of the exiles is a clear sign to the church and the nations of God’s faithfulness, as well as an indicator that we are nearing Yeshua’s return.
With my first visit to the Ethiopian Jewish community well over a decade ago, I was struck with the significance of what God is doing in our time—revealing, restoring, and redeeming the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel, scattered to the far corners of the earth. I made a commitment right then to use all possible resources to relieve their suffering and to bring the Gospel wherever He opens the door to His Chosen People.
Since that time, Jewish Voice has established multiple yearly medical outreaches to the Beta Avraham and Beta Israel Ethiopian Jews of Gondar and Addis Ababa, who were leſt behind in the dramatic Israeli airliſts of the 1980s and early 1990s and are now expectantly waiting in deplorable poverty for their turn to make aliyah to Israel.
Tese Jews of Ethiopia are the poorest of poor, rejected by their countrymen and called Falash Mura, meaning “outcast.” Many have suffered blindness and even death due to the lack of basic medical care. Te medical clinics you have enabled us to provide have literally made the difference of life and death to these precious People, the “apple of God’s Eye.”
In a major shiſt of policy, the Israeli government recently decided to allow all the remaining Beta Israel to immigrate to Israel. Tis is an enormous breakthrough and wonderful news for these Ethiopian Jews who have previously been unwelcome because of their ancestral conversion to Christianity to avoid persecution.
It may take up to five years for the twelve to sixteen thousand impoverished Jews of Gondar to make aliyah, at the 300 per month Israel has allotted. Tat reality makes our commitment even more imperative. As prophecy unfolds before our eyes, we must work hand in hand with the Lord to sustain the lives of these precious Jews until their dream becomes reality, expressing the love of God and bringing them the Good News that their Messiah Yeshua has come!
