22 Spoon Regional Fundraising
at Castletown Golf Links. A host of celebrity players from the worlds of sport and show business competed alongside local teams. This year Olympians Roger Black and Steve Backley were joined by footballers Andy Ritchie, Duncan McKenzie, Dean Windass and John Hendrie; World Superbike rider Leon Haslam, rugby league star Frank Myler, boxer John H Stracey and from the entertainment world Bernie Flint, Paul McCoy, Danny Roman and Aaron James. Stan Boardman also returned to host the event for the fifth year.
The tournament was won by the Blackburn Construction Team which consisted of Andy Gregory, Johnny Palmer, Dave Brown and ex- footballer Andy Ritchie.
The big winner on the day was Lee Spoony with the Eastern Counties team at Bury RFC
The fantastic rugby on show was capped by something of a shock in the final, as England were edged out 21-19 by Samurai Barracudas in a thrilling last match. Wooden Spoon Eastern Counties team, made up of Chris Haworth, Barrie Smith and Seamus Farrelly who with the help of Spoony gave the charity a great presence by handing out balloons, wristbands and running a raffle. Many thanks to Jack, Debbie and Andy Walker together with young Oliver Haworth for all their support.

HERTFORDSHIRE Old Time Music Hall In February, a Curry Night was held at the Pavilion Restaurant in Welwyn Garden City.
performed by the Kimpton Players on 24th February at Kimpton Village Hall. Raising over £1,600 for Hertfordshire children, the successful evening was enjoyed by the large audience and indeed by the Players themselves. On 18th May, 108 players battled wind and rain on the unique heathland course at Royston Golf Club, which was in beautiful condition even after the prolonged dry spell. The winners were ‘Trulights’ Warwick Raymen, Steve de Fraine, Adrian Shoebridge, and Simon Thorpe. The event, supported by the Captain, President and nine past Captains of Royston Golf Club including John Nicholl, raised over £3,000, all of which will go into the Hertfordshire Regional Funds.

Hole-in-One winner at Sir Norman Wisdom Golf Day
A great day was had by all on 17th May at the Sir Norman Wisdom Wooden Spoon Golf Day
Worsfold who hit a fantastic hole-in-one on the 16th bagging himself a £20,000 new Mini Countryman from BMW Mini dealership Buchanan.
An estimated £10,000 was raised and the day was rounded off with a fabulous gala dinner at the Palace Hotel joined by Sir Norman’s son Nick and daughter-in-law Kim and hosted by Stan Boardman.
Executive Director of sponsor Celton Manx, Bill Mummery said, “The Wooden Spoon is a fabulous charity which provides support for local children’s projects and we are proud to be associated with it.”

LEICESTERSHIRE Scrum & Party
The Stamford and Market Harborough offices of Strutt & Parker invited everyone to join them on 19th March in celebrating the final day of the Six Nations Rugby Championship. This was followed by a full evenings entertainment including a round up of the first half with Tigers legend Bleddyn Jones, a personalised video link from Martin Johnson,

The 47 diners had a lively evening and managed to raise £1,100. A few days later, the Committee was invited by Saracens to hold a bucket collection at Vicarage Road for their match against Sale which raised £600 for Hertfordshire projects.
A Quiz Night was held at Old Albanians Rugby Club at St. Albans, organised in the “Pass the Ball” campaign by Strutt and Parker. Over £3,000 was raised, helped by a brilliant and successful auction.
