APL Co. Ltd was the winner of this year’s Environment Protection Award for its investments to reduce emissions. The Singapore headquartered line is trialing seawater scrubbers to reduce pollutants. The judges noted the company had also invested in cold ironing for five vessels trading on the transpacific.


Additionally the container line had started to use low sulphur fuels while at dock in Hong Kong again to reduce emissions. The judges highlighted the efforts made by the container line to promote environmental awareness both within the company and externally.
