The clear winner in this year’s Bulk Operator Award was Hong Kong’s Pacific Basin Shipping. The judges highlighted the company’s strong profitability during a difficult market. The company operates a young fleet and was noted as having a very strong commitment to safety and training. On the safety front a very good inspection record was noted.


Pacific Basin showed a strong capability in managing counterparty risk and all contracts performed as expected last year without defaults.

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited


Coming out on top in the Ship Finance Award at this year’s Asia awards was Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC). The judges noted bank’s major book of Asian business with over 100 clients in 11 countries in the region with a diversified portfolio. HSBC’s strength in the Asian region was backed up by its wide range of financing solutions available to shipowners.


The bank also has a strong geographical presence in the region enabling the bank to give the level of service owners expect. The bank came out top with the judges in terms of its restructuring service and its impressive research capabilities and provision of investor education.
