The winner of the Safety Award this year was Singapore ship repair and conversion yard Keppel Shipyard. Keppel Shipyard scored well in a number of key areas making it the judges choice in a hotly contested category. In the area of accident frequency Keppel Shipyard demonstrated a clear commitment to a safe working environment.
Keppel Shipyard has actively invested in safety training and in June last year launched its safety training centre. The judges also noted that the yard was certified ISO 14001 for its management system and ISO 9001 for its quality management system.

THE SHIP MANAGER AWARD Thome Ship Management Pte Ltd
Walking off with the Ship Manager Award this year were Singapore-headquartered Thome Shipmanagement. Thome faced stiff competition from high quality entries. The judges rated Thome as the top manager on the basis of a variety of different factors. The company was seen not only as an efficient and cost effective manager but one that at the same time has kept a keen eye on training and safety.
The shipmanager was applauded for its safety record and in particular its lost time injury performance. Thome’s commitment to crew training was highlighted by a number of the judges with the manager demonstrating a comprehensive training programme. The judges also noted the efforts that Thome has made in the area of countering piracy attacks.
