Joanne & Robert

Robert and Joanne Shaw (formerly Morris) were married on 10th October 2010 at Kenwood Hall Hotel, Sheffield.

A dream prize

A recent house purchase had put Joanne and Rob on a tight budget and so they were considering combining a low key ceremony with a holiday in Cyprus. Little did they know that a visit to a Wedding Fayre and the resulting invitation to enter a competition would change all that beyond their wildest dreams. Less than a month later they took a call from Kenwood Hall Hotel who announced they had won a fabulous wedding package worth £4,000. Joanne and Robert couldn’t quite believe they had been given the chance to marry in Joanne’s dream venue of a restored manor house, let alone a four course wedding breakfast, drinks package, evening buffet and honeymoon suite. Despite being shell shocked, it was then all hands on deck to set arrangements in motion.

Finding inspiration

Joanne adored the powder blue colour of her tanzanite and white gold engagement ring and decided to use this as the colour theme for the whole wedding. As a creative person she loved playing with ideas for invitations and place settings and, unlike most brides, she considered herself lucky that her prospective groom shared her enthusiasm for the planning process. Together they devised a motif of entwined hearts for the tables and stationery. The baby blue theme was combined with ivory for the dresses of the four bridesmaids and the blue ribbon tie of Joanne’s bouquet of stunning cream roses. Joanne chose an ivory chiffon dress with bustier and

gathered skirt complete with a long train and waist length, diamante embellished veil. As a stickler for detail and since some photographs involved a walk to Kenwood Hall’s fishing lake, she had also chosen a pair of powder blue Crocs to keep her feet dry.

Music and memories

The wedding music was made memorable by the choice of a really versatile harpist. Choices consisted of popular music “From this Moment On” which was played as the couple walked in, “Fields of Gold” during the ceremony and “The Greatest Day” as

the newly-weds walked out.

When it came to the reception Rob, in particular, was nervous about all the attention their first dance would bring, but fortunately one of Joanne’s work friends had patiently taught the couple a routine. He needn’t have worried since when they took the floor to the strains of the Sugarbabes “Mended by You” the performance was greeted by a round of applause.

A Special day with special people Despite a misty start, a bright sunny day emerged and when

Joanne noticed ladybirds in the gardens she knew the whole day would be magical. The eve of Joanne and Rob’s wedding was their first night apart in four years, so when he turned and smiled at her as she walked down the aisle, she knew that would be her most lasting memory. Joanne was honoured to be led into the ceremony by Tom Woodhouse, a close friend of her stepfather, who had passed away five years previously. Her cousin, Kathryn, was an invaluable support in her role as chief bridesmaid, taking a lot of pressure off Joanne on the day - even secretly dashing home for Rob’s forgotten razor! Another bridesmaid, Emma, was able to use her beauty therapy training to ensure the bride looked beautiful from head to toe. Joanne had a little secret of her own when she revealed her Rotherham United garter for the photographs, the couple both being keen fans. Since the couple had already set up home, friends and family kindly contributed to a honeymoon in Mexico, in lieu of gifts. This meant they could complete their fabulous experience by swimming with dolphins.
