PLANETSOLAR ARRIVES IN HONG KONG AFTER MAKING THE FIRST CROSSING OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA WITH SOLAR ENERGY.

MS TÛRANOR PlanetSolar arrived in Hong Kong on Monday, the 15th August 2011, after 6 days of very difficult navigation due to monsoons and tropical storms that currently prevail in this region. This marks the first crossing of the South China Sea by a solar boat, which is an incredible presentation. All members of the PlanetSolar Team and its partners are proud of this achievement.

Erwann Le Rouzic, the PlanetSolar Captain, who was in constant contact with the PlanetSolar Land Team in Yverdon, Switzerland and the support team of Météo-France in Toulouse, France, applauded the success of this complex navigation.

Raphael Domjan, founder and initiator of the PlanetSolar project, said he was “impressed by the talent of the PlanetSolar Skipper, Erwann Rouzic, who managed to make the right decisions at the right time.”

PlanetSolar left Subic Bay in the Philippines on Monday August 8th at 11:00 LT (0300 UTC). More than 600 miles (1,000 km) was covered under extremely trying conditions, with little sunshine and heavy rainfall in the early days. This made it challenging to navigate the largest solar boat in the world.

The whole PlanetSolar Team, in collaboration with “Presence Switzerland,” will now participate in various important events in Hong Kong. The PlanetSolar village, which was inaugurated in September of 2009 in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland, will be on site allowing the public to share the experience of “PlanetSolar.”
