GREEN ENERGY INVESTMENTS REACH GLOBAL HIGH.

The UN Environment Programme has announced that their Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment 2011 report has found that Green Energy Investment is up by nearly a third, jumping to a hefty $211 billion (£132 billion).

The report, was prepared for UNEP by London-based Bloomberg New Energy Finance.

China, was proclaimed the world leader with over $48 billion in financial investment made in renewables (up 28%), but other parts of the world showed sizeable increases in investment, including: South and Central America: up 39% to $13.1 billion, Middle East and Africa: up 104% to $5 billion, India: up 25% to $3.8 billion, and other Asian developing countries: up 31% to $4 billion.

The star propellants for eco investment growth were wind farms in China and solar roof panels from Germany and for the first time, developing economies overtook developed ones in terms of “financial new investments” injecting $72bn into renewable projects

Government research and development climbed over 120 per cent to well over $5 billion. The sharpest percentage jumps in overall investment were seen in small-scale projects up 91% year-on-year at $60 billion, and in government-funded research and development, up 121% at $5.3 billion

“The continuing growth in this core segment of the green economy is not happening by chance,” said Achim Steiner, executive director of the UN Environment Programme.

“The combination of government target-setting, policy support and stimulus funding is underpinning the renewable industry’s rise and bringing the much needed transformation of our global energy system within reach.”*(1)

A WHALE OF A THANK YOU.

KIND ACTIONS REAP BIG REWARDS, AS RECENTLY EXPERIENCED BY CONSERVATIONIST MICHAEL FISCHBACH AND HIS CREW.

Mexico: A humpback whale entangled in fishing nets was saved from near death as conservationists rallied together on a small boat for over an hour to cut it free with just a small knife.

Finally after an hour of exhausting work they decided they had enough net aboard to make the final cut. With cheers they set her free,

She slowly swam away but about 500 ft from the boat she breached high into the air.

“For the next hour she provided us with an incredible full surface display, we saw at least 40 breaches, as well as tail robs, tail slaps and pectoral fin slaps! We all believed it was at least a show of pure joy, if not thanks.” Said Michael Fishbach, co- founder of The Great Whale Conservancy (GWC)
