CONNECTING US ALL By Trina Hart

W Q

e caught up with science journalist Lynne McTaggart who is also a best-selling author, researcher and lecturer whose work has rightly been described as “a bridge between science and spirituality”.

For the past 20 years she has been researching medicine and its shortcomings, and quantum physics and what this means for you and me and the world we live in.

Lynne has recently launched her new book The Bond: Connecting Through the Space Between Us in the USA and now in the UK, and so it was with great delight that I had the opportunity to meet Lynne to ask her about her new book, and where the journey was taking us next.

I have been following your activities right back from when you started your fabulous work with What Doctors

Don’t Tell You, and more recently with the phenomenal success of your book The Field, followed swiftly by The Intention Experiment, and now The Bond: Connecting Through the Space Between Us which is due to be released in the UK in September. I am wondering in which direction this new book will be taking us.

LMcT: From the time I wrote The Field I was always interested in creating a new narrative to live by, I had approached that book not really knowing where I was going; it was kind of a journey without a compass. I knew I wanted to try to find out why things like spiritual healing and homeopathy work, but I didn’t know what I was looking for. So I just started interviewing frontier scientists just to find out if they had any idea why this stuff works, and in the course of doing that, I came across a number of scientists doing remarkable work, all of which suggested that we were on the verge of a revolution in the way we think of ourselves and the understanding of how we work, and how the universe works, and so that became The Field. Out of that I was interested in the power of consciousness and the role of consciousness in affecting matter, and being the hard-edged journalist I am at heart, I wanted to find out how far we can go. What can we do with our thoughts? If they’re so powerful let’s stop thinking about manifesting a new car for ourselves, let’s cure cancer. So that’s why I started the Intention

Experiment. I wanted to look at the power of thought, but I also wanted to look at the power of group thought. There had been some interesting studies about that which had been tantalising but not conclusive. So my husband turned to me one night and said “why don’t you do it yourself?”. That sounded ridiculous because I’m a science writer, not a scientist, but I started thinking about it because I’ve got hundreds and thousands of readers around the world, and I also know lots of these frontier scientists, so if I put them together we’ll have the biggest mind over matter experiment in history. So that’s what we did with the Intention Experiment, and we are still carrying that on; we still have some exciting experiments that I’ll get to in a moment. But, for The Bond, what I always had in mind was that I want the new narrative, but I also want the new blue-print as to how to live. If we’re not separate and if we’re not competitive and we’re all one, as science seems to suggest, well then we are living completely contrary to that in the way we have set up our societal structure. So really I always had a plan to write The Bond from the beginning of The Field, so it really became a natural progression working toward it.

Q

Looking at the experiments you’ve done with the Intention Experiment, you’ve shown categorically time and time again that a collective consciousness effort does appear to have an impact, and I’m thinking in particular about the experiment where you were looking for a peaceful out come to the troubles in Sri Lanka. That, if I recall, didn’t have an immediate outcome. Tell us how this experiment turned out?

LMcT: What happened with the Sri Lanka peace intention experiment was really fascinating, it was very provocative. We had an eight day experiment with people from up to seventy countries around the world coming together on our website, and as is the way we do with all the experiments, we have a target that people only learn about once they are in the process; they come on the website, register and then find out what it is they are sending intention to. So we did this for eight days and thousands of people from around the globe participated, and during that week violence quadrupled in Sri Lanka. I was really panicked about this, I thought “oh my goodness, what have we
