Sarah has always been a nature lover, and so Madagascar with its wealth of amazing wildlife has fascinated her for many years. She has previously taken part in other conservation programmes, and she was inspired to take part in this short expedition after hearing about the poverty of the local people and the lack of healthcare in the local villages.
Madagascar is increasingly being recognised as a conservation priority; there is greater biodiversity within the 4% of forest remaining on Madagascar than in all of Africa, or most other regions globally. Madagascar is quickly being recognised as a global conservation priority from professionals in many fields as precious ecosystems are being destroyed at a surprising rate. Tied very closely to this, is the absolute poverty of the people who live in Madagascar; over 70% of the island’s population of 18 million people live on less than 1 US Dollar a day, this poverty being most pronounced in those areas where Azafady works.
QUANTUM HEALTH MAGAZINE SCIENCE EDITOR SARAH TURNER PREPARES TO MARVEL AT MADAGASCAR WITH SUPPORT FROM THE NES
MIHEALTH! On the 16th of November 2011, Sarah will be headed for the magical island of Madagascar to take part in a 2 week charity expedition aimed at improving the lives of the Malagasy people, whilst helping to conserve the precious natural resources in the area.
Conservation is a subject close to Sarah’s heart, so when the opportunity arose to take part in a new conservation scheme run by the charity Azafady, she jumped at the chance to secure one of the limited spaces. The charity runs projects in rural southeast Madagascar supporting community health and wellbeing, conservation, humanitarian and sustainable development projects.
As part of the scheme, Sarah needs to raise a minimum donation of £600, as well as raising awareness of this very important charity and its work. In order to raise this donation, Sarah is organising a charity event where she and some of her colleagues from NES Health, where she is Head of Research, will be climbing Mount Snowden. She will be accompanied by Paul Capper, NES Software Developer and Sam Tucker, NES Marketing as well as friend, Brett Moran, of Matrix Mind.
To support Sarah on her charity event, NES miHealth has generously agreed to cover all expenses for the Snowden hike. The NES miHealth is the new revolutionary, powerful and hand-held health management system designed to balance the body’s information pathways and energy fields, allowing the body to maintain an optimum state of health. It is the ideal sponsor for an activity challenge as some of the many functions of the NES miHealth include increased athletic performance, recovery of muscle fatigue and pain reduction.
On the 24th of September ‘Team miHealth’ will set off to climb Snowden armed with NES miHealth devices ready to come to the rescue of faltering hikers, weary walkers and exhausted mountaineers!
Watch this space for the Team miHealth diary and to see more of how the team prepared for the climb.
