CURTIS BURNETT Manager – manufacturing engineering, Deere & Co.


Curtis Burnett has 29 years of experience with Deere & Co. and is currently its manager of manufacturing engineering. Before joining Deere, Burnett was a Coop with Kraft Foods. John Deere history includes experience in all three manufacturing divisions; Agriculture, Construction and Forestry (C&F), and Commercial and Consumer Products (CCE).


In C&F he led the Six Sigma implementation and process managed business team. He also gained experience in marketing as Division Manager, Sales and Service. In the CCE division,


led the “Build to Demand” asset reduction initiative and launched the implementation of the Deere Production System. As Director of Quality for CCE, revitalized Quality Engineering and implemented a very successful returns and allowances reduction program.


Most recently, as Operations Manager, he implemented lean manufacturing for a joint-venture transmission factory in South Carolina.


JOHN CRUTCHFIELD Senior manager – industrial engineering, The Boeing Co.


John Crutchfield is currently leading the industrial engineering team at Boeing’s St. Louis facility; a position he has held since 1999. In that time, the role of industrial engineers has expanded to include implementation of lean principles, with applications in manufacturing as well as engineering and business processes. Under John’s leadership, this team has been a primary force in transformation of Boeing’s St. Louis and St. Charles facilities to a lean production system modeled after that of Toyota.


In January 2008, he was selected to lead the Operations sponsored Industrial Engineering Process Action Team in development of enterprise common processes and systems for the Industrial Engineering function. John has led, supported, and participated on a number of other enterprise teams and special assignments, including: • Sponsor of the Manufacturing Simulation Subject-Matter-Expert Team • Sponsor of the Process-Data-Sheet Best Practice • Leader of a Boeing Operations Support Team at Raytheon’s Tucson facility • Support of numerous site, program, process, and proposal review teams • Development of the first widely-published Operations Strategic Plan • IE/Lean Representative on the Early Program Involvement Team • Participating on the Industrial Advisory Board for the Univ. of Missouri IE Department


After receiving a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1984, John began work for McDonnell Douglas. He spent the first half of his career in Structural Design, working on the F/A-18C/D and several proprietary programs. He was also the Principal Investigator on IRAD and CRAD efforts focused on Dimensional Management and other methods to improve producibility of airframe assemblies.


John received a M.S. in engineering management from the University of Missouri-Rolla, and began the second half of his career managing a number engineering support functions within Production Operations. Prior responsibilities have included strategic planning, capital planning, and equipment and process engineering.
