Se’lux Stratford station, East London


Olympic Gateway Renovated


Stratford Station gets a makeover ready for the influx of visitors to the 2012 Games.


In preparation for the arrival of thousands of visitors coming to London for the 2012 London Olympics, Stratford Station in East London has received a £110 million upgrade. The station, which will be the gateway for all visitors, received an extensive new lighting scheme for the platforms, stairs and other pedestrian areas. Consultants Pinniger & Partners designed the lighting plan, and specified

an extensive range of lighting from Se’lux UK, who develop creative lighting systems for interior and exterior use. Three versions of the highly versatile Railway Cassette M125x90 luminaire were chosen for the station refurbishment. Matching the needs of the station, the minimalist, yet highly vandal-resistant M125x90 is IP65-rated, and designed around a range of energy-efficient T8 linear


fluorescent lamps, ranging from 1x36W to 2x58W.


Each of the luminaires has a glass diffuser and internal white metal louvre, to prevent glare to drivers of trains as they arrive in the station. This falls in line with stringent ‘Section 12’ requirements and standards of tube station lighting below surface. On the platforms, a total of 461 recessed single 58W models were combined with
