Equine Careers Te range of careers in and around horses is wide and varied. Tere are many exciting career opportunities that exist in the Racing Industry, Australia’s second largest employer including Jockeys, Owners, Stable hands, Track work Riders, and Racehorse Trainers. Horse breeders work closely with veterinary surgeons and stud managers with in foal mares, mares and foals and stallions. Following the breeding season you could work with weanlings and yearlings, preparing them for competition or sales. Te performance horse industry also offers a wide range of job opportunities. You could work as a senior horse groom, polo groom, stable manager or stud hand working in stables, studs and places of competition where you will be able to educate, handle and care for the health and wellbeing of performance horses. You will also be able to prepare horses for competition and exercise horses in a stable and in competitions such as eventing, show jumping and polo. Animal Care Careers For those seeking a career in the Animal Care Industry, Richmond College Animal Care Section offers qualifications in: Vet Nursing, Captive Animals, Animal Technology, Dog Grooming and Animal Care. Our courses are usually offered one or two days per week, with some courses being offered in the evenings. For those already working in the industry, some courses are offered flexibly, online, or delivered in your workplace. All animal care certificate courses can be completed as part of a Traineeship. We also have a large range of general interest animal courses, including Canine Behaviour, Feline Behaviour, Animal Training, Reptile Care, Wildlife First Aid, Animal Massage and Pet Grooming.


Our animal care teaching staff are all industry qualified professionals with teaching qualifications, and include Veterinarians, Veterinary Specialists, Veterinary Nurses, Animal Technologists, Animal Behaviourists, Animal Trainers, Zookeepers, Animal Scientists, Dog Groomers, Pet Shop Personnel, and Animal Nutritionists. Facilities developed to support Animal Care training include: Fully operational dog grooming salon; Animal house ; Aviaries; Veterinary nursing training facility with industry equipment ; New classrooms, laboratories and teacher offices; New canteen and student facilities; Extended Library and student Learning Centre; E learning facilities.


Courses for School Students We also offer courses to Year 11 and 12 School students; TVET Courses. Students can attend TAFE one afternoon a week and this can credit two units towards their HSC results. Certificate II Animal Studies Learn about caring for a variety of companion animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice, birds. Professional Dog Grooming Tis course is a short commercial course for those seeking a career as a professional dog groomer. With industry recognised units from the Animal Care and Management Training Package, this practical hands on course will give students the skills to groom dogs to industry standard. Our pet grooming salon operates on Tursdays during term.
