SPS Outdoor Education Outdoor Education continues to play an important role in our curriculum as we make the most of the wonderful area in which we all live. These pages show pupils participating in a variety of adventurous activities designed to develop self-esteem, team building and perseverance - to name but a few essential life skills! Year 5 pupils spent three days and two nights camping on their residential trip at Duchy College in Cornwall; Year 6 had three ‘Adventure Days’ at the Mountbatten Centre in Plymouth; Years 3 and 4 each enjoyed day trips to Dartmoor; Year I and 2 pupils spent a wonderful day on the beach at Goodrington Sands studying marine life and the Reception class had hours of fun with their scientific observations of snails. As you can see from the smiling faces playtime at school is pretty fun too!

Picnic and Proms Concert End of term was celebrated with a fantastic Friends of Stover Picnic and Proms Concert. With a total of 500 attending from all parts of the school: nursery, prep, senior and 6th form plus external performances from the music festival winners, music teachers, Storm Brass and members of the Tors orchestra and the school choirs. We would like to thank the sponsors: Ashfords Solicitors - flag waving, Lamars Decorating Contractors Limited - table magician and Specialist Vehicles - classic car display who helped make this event so successful.

RC Car Club 50mph! This is the speed that can be attained by a modern remote control car which is only eight or nine times

smaller than the real thing. They can be relatively simple to use and fun to drive. This is a great club for anyone, as those

watching do get involved in driving. The cars themselves are simple but sometimes there are accidents - usually caused by the driver turning too vigorously and rolling the car. This is a supervised club, constantly supported with interest by Ms Absalom and is very highly recommended.

Stover Music Festival Stover’s First Music Festival took place recently. The aim was to give young people, aged 9 - 18 years, within the Teignbridge and surrounding area, an opportunity to perform and share their musical talents. The standard of entry was very high with outstanding performances from all participants. Ben Moseby, from Palm FM Radio, joined us at the Festival to interview participants and give listeners a flavour of the event. Congratulations and well done to all our pupils that took part.

Geography Field Trip South Wales Year 10 Geography students went on our annual trip to Bristol and South Wales. Our first stop was Cribbs Causeway, where the centre manager gave us a short lecture about the shopping centre. From there we went to Harbourside and studied the regeneration of this much improved part of Bristol. Thursday brought some rain, but it did

not affect the

determination of the group to gain detailed data about our chosen river the Mon Caerfanell in the Brecon Beacons. All the students worked hard measuring and recording channel characteristics, velocity, gradient, altitude and bed load as well as sketching and photographing natural features of the river and its valley at 3 sites above the Talybont Reservoir.
