TEIGNMOUTH COMMUNITY SCHOOL “A good school with outstanding features” Ofsted 2010
NEW SIXTH FORM COURSES Got your GCSE results? Want to continue studying? Not sure what to do? Contact the school from 5 September (tel: 01626 774091) to find out how Teignmouth Community School can help.
MORE 16 year olds than ever at Teignmouth Community School achieve a clutch of GCSE qualifications and each year growing numbers stay on in the sixth form, together with students from other schools, for a mixture of A levels and vocational courses. For some, however, learning needs to be more practical and this is the kind of student the new courses are designed for.
From September Teignmouth Community School Sixth Form will be offering professional workplace based studies in hair, childcare and sports leadership for the first time in Teignmouth.
Delivered by industry experts and professionals, the new courses will involve a mix of college and work based learning. The childcare students will be working in the reception part of Teignmouth Community School (formerly known as Inverteign Primary) and the sports coaching students will be working in local primary schools and linked with a football or rugby club in Exeter or Torquay. The hairdressers will study in college in ‘The Salon’ and will be supported by Jude Hawman, owner and manager of Teignmouth hair salon Envy.
“Meeting the needs of the people of this town has always been at the heart of everything Teignmouth Community School does,” says Glenn Cosby, Director of Sixth Form.
“We have a proven track record of students excelling at A level and going on to University. We hope that these new courses will help other students find their vocation as well as practical employment opportunities.”
With something on offer for all potential students, contact the Exeter Road site from 5 September by calling 01626 774091 for more information.
The school website also has a wide range of information for parents and can be viewed at:

Yoga classes this autumn term
WITH autumn approaching and the days shortening, it’s easy to loose the sense of wellbeing that comes so much more easily in the summer. One way to stay mentally and physically on top
through the darker months is to take up a new activity. So this September why not try a course of Yoga lessons?
Now very popular in the West, Yoga originated in India and the word Yoga is the Sansrik for yoke or union. The centre of the practice is the idea that we work towards harmony and wholeness within ourselves, not seeing body and mind as separate. Yoga provides a series of postures (asanas) and breathing practices ( pranyamas) which over time

build strength, suppleness, balance and improve posture and stamina. There are often more subtle benefits to regular Yoga practice too; improved energy levels, better sleep and being better able to deal with stressful situations.
Attending a class regularly with a qualified teacher helps with motivation and is also a way of meeting new people. Jan Walpole (DSY) is offering a range of classes in Dawlish, Holcombe and Kingsteignton this autumn. The sessions are suitable for men and women of most levels of fitness. You can look at the timetable on her website at

NEXT STEPS Evening for Year 6 Parents
DURING the past year there have been many changes to what were Teignmouth Community College and Inverteign Community Nursery & Primary Schools.
The college became an Academy and then Federated with Inverteign to become Teignmouth Community School, a 3-18 years school, with the two sites now known as Exeter Road and Mill Lane.
The Next Steps Evening at Exeter Road will be on Thursday 22 September at 6pm when all parents of Year 6 children are invited to see the school and what it can offer their children from September 2012.
There will be a welcome from the Principal, Mr Gray, plus the
opportunity to tour the site and see some of the activities your children will take part in as part of their learning, together with meeting the staff and some of the current students, and of course seeing the facilities the school has to offer.
If it is not possible for parents to attend on 22 September, then please contact the school on 01626 774091 to arrange a convenient time to visit us.
