Labor Day service schedule for City City of Chandler service closures for Labor Day on Mon., Sept. 5 are as follows: • City administrative offi ces will be closed. • Trash and recycling collection will be unaffected and occur as scheduled.
• Recycling-Solid Waste Collection Facility for residential self-haul will be closed.
• Tumbleweed Recreation Center at Tumbleweed Park will be open as scheduled from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• Chandler Tennis Center at Tumbleweed Park will be closed.
• Environmental Education Center, Snedigar Recreation Center, Senior Center and downtown Community Center will be closed.
• Libraries at Downtown, Basha, Hamilton Sunset will be closed. • Chandler Museum will be closed.
• Arrowhead Pool and the Desert Oasis, Hamilton, Mesquite Groves and West Chandler Aquatic Centers are open from noon to 5 p.m. Folley Pool is closed.
• No lap swimming sessions will be held at Hamilton or Mesquite Groves aquatic centers.
Growth announcements made at council meeting
Economic growth including a new business moving in to Chandler, and award- winning city projects attracting more businesses were announced during the latest Chandler City Council meeting. Global aerospace fi rm Triumph Group will move its Phoenix operations to Chandler early next year. Mayor Jay Tibshraeny announced the company will take close to 80,000 square feet in west Chandler, bringing in 110 jobs with the potential to grow to 200.
Another 400 new jobs have been added to the community since last November’s completion of the South Arizona Avenue Corridor Improvement Project. The new pedestrian-friendly feel to the city’s core, named “Project of the Year” by the Arizona Section of the American Public Works Association, has attracted 12 new businesses to downtown Chandler.
Two free programs promoting successful and sustainable neighborhoods by providing information, education, networking and leadership development opportunities take place in September. The next Neighborhood HOA Academy for improving homeowners’ associations is Thu., Sept. 8, and the next Traditional Neighborhood Academy is Wed., Sept. 7.
The council also appointed Janet Langley to the Chandler Cultural Foundation Management Board and Steve Sheldon to the Domestic Violence Commission. For City Council meeting minutes, visit

Call for Chandler event volunteers
Volunteers are needed to participate in The Downtown Chandler Community Partnership’s (DCCP) upcoming Oktoberfest and TASTE events at AJ Chandler Park. All volunteers receive a complimentary ticket to the event plus one guest ticket. Oktoberfest is from 2 to 10 p.m. Sat., Sept. 24 and requires 95 volunteers for three- to four-hour shifts for beverage service, box offi ce duty and event setup and takedown.
This festival will continue its tradition of top quality entertainment, food and beverage, themed games and contests for all ages to enjoy. It will feature a beer garden with more than 100 kegs of beer, entertainment, arts and crafts booths, a family kid’s zone and a variety of traditional German food booths. TASTE, held from noon to 6 p.m. Sat., Oct. 15, is Chandler’s Culinary Festival, requiring numerous volunteers for beverage and food service, box offi ce
duty and event setup and takedown. The event includes gourmet food prepared by Chandler restaurants, wine tasting, entertainment and a silent auction. A portion of the proceeds benefi ts local nonprofi ts serving the downtown area.
