Are you and your teenager looking for a challenge this Fall? The Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors are looking for 8th grade and high school athletes to join their

nationally recognized team. To kick start this coming year’s program, the team is hosting two recruitment weeks August 15th to the 19th and August 29th to September 2nd.

Our team has grown from ten athletes in 2002 to around 60 athletes in just a few years. The mission of the club is to develop rowing in the region and provide access to a sport that is relatively new to Oklahoma but is growing rapidly.

Rowing is a challenging sport because it teaches discipline and perseverance as you build toward a long-term goal. In addition, as a rowing team, you learn to trust each other and every member of the crew is a vital part of the team. The club’s coaches work hard to teach each athlete the correct technique and then the crew works together to make the rowing shell (boat) go as fast as possible on the race course.

The sport’s defining moment is the point when the coach bids farewell to a crew going to race. The boat rows away from the dock and the athletes execute their race plan and have to make all of the decisions themselves. Since there is very little hand holding, young student athletes soon learn to become independent.
