Val Sabin Publications Dance KS1 & KS2

Dance makes an invaluable contribution to the personal develop- ment of children and positively encourages growth of self-confi- dence and self-esteem. Social development is enhanced when children work together. They learn to understand the strengths and weaknesses of others and encourage development of cooperation, adaptability and vital interpersonal skills.

Learning to negotiate, making decisions and living with other peo- ple’s decisions, are valuable lessons learnt through group work. Although observation skills are developed in games and gym- nastics, another dimension of observation is experienced in dance - aesthetic line and meaning of movement. Encouraging accurate observational skills enables children to make informed judgements and opens the door for logical problem-solving.

The Primary School Dance scheme comprises two comprehensive and user-friendly manuals containing a total of 76 lesson plans (40 dances & 40 tracks of mu- sic on 3 CDs) in Reception & Key Stage 1, and 137 lesson plans (49 dances and 195 tracks of music on 6 CDs) in Key Stage 2. Primary School teach- ers need never be without exciting material for their dances!

These manuals follow the same comprehensive and user-friendly structure as the Val Sabin Games, Gymnastics and Athletics schemes of work. The teaching guide gives practical advice on planning, teaching styles and strategies, choosing and using stimuli for dance, accompaniment, movement material, compos- ing, performing and appreciating dances. Dances follow National Curriculum requirements and link with Q.C.A. guidance and outcomes. Assessment sheets are included.

Each Reception & KS1 Dance contains a page of related activities to do in the classroom. Whilst each dance in KS2 contain a page which explains about the dance, the structures, the resources, and ways of extending, developing and enriching the dance further.

At the rear of each manual there is a section of photocopiable resources linked to the dances.
