Val Sabin Publications Activate Training
Val Sabin Training Course
Activate in the classroom has programmes for movement-age/development levels from 4 – 13. Designed by Val Sabin, they are inclusive, whole class progressive patterns of movement pro- grammes that improve physical fluency aspects of agility, balance, coordination, precision and control of movement, flexibility and rhythm. Children increase their fitness and stamina, improve their posture and core strength and develop further their concentration focus, attention spans and ability to listen.
These repeated patterns of movement to music programmes are guided by clinical practice and research findings that link a wide variety of conditions with cerebellar/vestibular deficiencies.
Although thousands of schools and hundreds of thousands of children now use Activate in the classroom, there is not always an adequate understanding of why the repeated patterns of move- ments need to be done daily in order to gain the fullest benefits. The courses, therefore give participants the opportunity to:-
● Experience and see the progressions in Activate programmes 5, 7, 9, 11 & 13 ● Become more aware of the research that has guided the design of the programmes.
With regard to the explanations, we cover why music is used, why movements are repeated and for how long, why there are speech patterns and exercises, cognitive calculations, multi-tasking, balance exercises and vision exercises. An explanation as to why and how the frogs, rabbits and kangaroos programmes are integrated to allow for movement between them if necessary.
15 minutes of Activate each day for 5 days per week provides an extra 75 minutes per week of high quality physical activity, develops self-awareness, gradually increases confidence and self- esteem, develops a wide range of personal, social, behavioural and academic capabilities and competencies together with aiding the fight against obesity.
Course Objectives are:- ● to understand the research behind the programmes.
● to become familiar with the activities and extensions.
● to know how to deliver the activities.
