It was the fi rst Long Course state meet for Beau Lonnquist, 8, who fi nished fourth in the 50 backstroke, sixth in the 50 butterfl y and eighth in the 50 breaststroke. Hannah Cooney, 9, and Lindsey Hausafus, 10, dominated the breaststroke events. Cooney fi nished fourth in the 100, while Hausafus dropped seven seconds after losing her goggles at the begin- ning of her 100 breaststroke; managing a sixth place fi nish. Emelia Hush, 10, placed fourth in the 100 backstroke, negative splitting a 1:28.20 swim. Nine-year old Jonathan Westlake had a
standout meet with third and fourth place fi nishes in the 100 and 50 breaststroke, respectively. He also placed sixth in his 200 IM with a 3:31.62 and a strong breaststroke leg. Garrett Smith, 10, placed fourth in the 50 breaststroke, going 44.49.
Swim Team Try Outs There will be a swim team tryout on
Sept. 12 from 4-5 p.m. in the 50-meter Pool. Participants should be able to swim 25 yards of backstroke and freestyle with comfortable side breathing. It is possible to try out any day of the year, but this is one of two days devoted to it throughout the year. Contact the Aquatics Offi ce at 503-517-7512.

MerryMacs Summer Activities
W
arm weather and the camaraderie of friends greeted the MerryMacs during their annual picnic on Saturday, July 30 at the home of Jeff Gudman. Afternoon activities included pool games, PoKeNo and bingo, followed by a potluck dinner. For dessert a decorated cake was served to celebrate the birthdays of Mary Hilbers and Astrid Pieretti. Thanks to Nan Overall for chairing this successful event. Still celebrating summer, the MerryMacs
and guests went on a Willamette River cruise Aug. 21. Organized by Mary Hilbers, the trip included champagne, a buffet brunch and live entertainment.
