Teach Babies to Sign Before They Can Speak C
hildren’s author Dawn Babb Prochovnic, MA, returns to MAC to teach parents and caregivers how to help their hearing babies communicate their wants and needs before they can talk. Imagine a baby distinctly communi- cating that he or she is thirsty or finished with a meal instead of crying or throwing food on the floor. Sign language makes this possible.
Meet the Author
Prochovnic visits the Baby Picasso class at the club on Friday, Sept. 23 to read from one of several picture books she authored in the Story Time with Signs & Rhymes series. Participants sing songs, learn some sign language, hear a story and have the opportunity to purchase signed copies of Prochovnic’s books.
Infant/Toddler Sign Language Series I
A four-week series is scheduled for
Wednesdays, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 10–11 a.m. Participants bring their babies to these weekly one-hour workshops to receive instructional support and reassur- ance as they learn how to communicate with their preverbal babies in ways that encourage the use of signs. Topics include signs for food and drink, action words, people, places and things, and favorite animals.
The workshops are geared for families with babies from birth to approximately 2 years old.
