Kevin Adatto joined MAC through the lottery in

2005, later adding his wife Virginia. They now have a family membership that includes their son Sam.

receive one extra ticket in the drawing. On a family application the age of the older spouse or partner is the determining factor. Those who entered a previous MAC lottery without being drawn will also receive one extra ticket in the 2012 drawing. This does not apply to anyone drawn in a previous lottery who, for any reason, did not become a member. No applicant will have more than four tickets in the 2012 lottery, regardless of the number of previous lotteries entered, or a combination of age, early application and previous lottery entries.

An applicant may be proposed for individual or family membership, but not

both. Anyone listed on more than one application is disqualifi ed. Family member- ship includes two adults legally joined by marriage, Oregon Domestic Partnership or civil union; or an individual with one or more children ages seven through 17 years. Applicants must be at least 21 on the date of the lottery. Former MAC members expelled from the club are not eligible. A senior, life or nonresident member

in good standing for at least one year may propose one or more lottery appli- cants. The proposer must know the applicant well for at least three years. Current trustees may not propose or serve as references.

The proposer is respon- sible to the club for the integrity of the applica- tion process. The proposer requests the application and shares the club’s lottery rules and instructions with the applicant. The proposer should verify that the appli- cation is complete and sign it before submission. If the applicant is approved for membership, the proposer should help orient the new member and introduce him or her to others.

Applicants are required to go through

the club’s regular screening process by the Membership Committee. This includes verifi cation of information on the appli- cation, 30-day posting, review of three references and a public records search. Admission of members is at the discretion of the Board of Trustees.

Applicants drawn for the lottery list must submit an initiation fee deposit by Monday, Feb. 27. The deposit for family and individual applicants is $3,400 and $1,700, respectively. The balance of the initiation fee is due at the time of election to membership, and payment plans are available. Initiation fees at the time of the lottery are $10,200 for families and $5,100 for individuals.

In addition to the lottery, qualifi ed applicants may be proposed as the spouse of a member, as a legacy member or through the Ethnic Diversity Program. Individuals who live and work more than 50 aerial miles from the club may be proposed for nonresident membership without going through the lottery. Contact Member Services at
