or recreational drugs like nicotine and alcohol, which kill thousands every year.
The only conclusion I can possibly come to is money. It is not a case of the government losing money as, if regulated and taxed, the economy would benefit from millions every year. No, this is about the politicians themselves losing money. If marijuana was legalised, even if only for me- dicinal reasons, the pharmaceutical companies, who’s corporate boards are swimming with poli- ticians, would lose BILLIONS!
Unfortunately it seems that, for now, we must
risk arrest and prosecution if we are to continue to use this non-toxic plant for either medicine or simply to relax in the privacy of our own homes. However I for one am willing to take these risks and to stand proud and without shame should the worst happen in the form of police action. As Martin Luther King Jr. once said “An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law.”
