Jacqui Ison
Success for lucky 13 at the All England Dance National Finals
CLASSICAL GREEK SILVER MEDALLISTS
After two years preparing and competing at local festivals and the All England Dance North London Regional Finals in May, 13 dancers from Jacqui Ison Theatre Arts battled it out against some very strong opposition from the rest of the country at the All England Dance
National Finals, held at the Peacock Theatre in London’s West End from 29th July to 6th August 2011. The squad was placed in 14 sections, taking home 27 medals, including 12 Gold.
Pupils competed in solo, duet, trio, and troupe sections in various styles including classical ballet, modern, tap, national, song and dance and classical Greek. Gold medalists included Inez Parsell, Anya Parrish, Isabella Parsell, Lauren Mitchell, Bethany Cave and Joseph Mitchell, with all members of the classical Greek troupe receiving a silver medal to their credit.
Principal, Jacqui Ison, commented “The pupils had to compete to a very high standard just to get to the Regional and National Finals, which in itself is an honour and wonderful experience. However, with everyone from the squad winning a medal, it was a truly magnificent achievement.”
The lucky 13 pupils who performed were Kerys Borg, Bethany Cave, Niamh Fitzgerald, Emma Flodman, Tegan Griffiths, Joseph Mitchell, Lauren Mitchell, Rhiannon Morley, Anya Parrish, Inez Parsell, Isabella Parsell, Eleanor Randall and Lauren Simpson.
Lauren Mitchell was invited to perform her winning classical Greek solo at the closing Gala, alongside Lauren Cuthbertson and Wayne Sleep, current and former principals with the Royal Ballet respectively. Having also won gold in the Intermediate Greek Trio (with Isabella Parsell and Bethany Cave), and silver in the Intermediate Greek troupe, Lauren was presented with the Anne Tyrer Greek Dance Award, which carried a cash award for further training. Well done, Lauren!
