FRIDAY 9.02 Bell’s Eccentric Cafe Back Forty BEST BET: Pop

HIDE YOUR TICKLE ME ELMOS, KIDS – Katy Perry is bring- ing the California Dreams Tour to Van Andel Arena. Perry will be promoting her most recent album, Teenage Dream, which features catchy pop hits such as “Firework,” “California Gurls” (featuring Snoop Dogg) and the upbeat, optimistic title track. Teenage Dream is a follow-up to her 2008 debut album, One of the Boys, which gave us “Hot N Cold” and “I Kissed a Girl.” A fascinating turn to this tour will be the social media outlets Perry will be using to pump fans up for shows; the Tweet-to-Screen feature will allow fans to see their tweets, complete with adoring hashtags, on giant screens above the stage before Perry begins performing, which will allow fans to connect to Perry and to each other while anticipating the show. Fellow pop diva Janelle Monáe will join Perry for multiple stops on the tour, including Grand Rapids. Whether you’re a California Gurl or One of the Boys, you’re sure to enjoy this night out with Perry and all of her friends, even if it’s not a wild and crazy Friday night. Reported by Meaghan Igel
