Fall Concerts, continued from page 55

Hold Steady and Foxy Shazam. This fall, The Strutt is bringing back Shonen Knife

— another Nirvana-approved band hitting up West Michigan this fall. Shonen Knife stopped by The Strutt in 2010 and will be back Nov. 13. “Ninety percent of the indie bands out

there are for white dudes with flannel shirts, so it’s good to get something from another universe,” said Strutt Booking Agent Andy Catlin on Shonen Knife. Also unconventional, forever man-child

Andy Milonakis, who will be appearing at The Strutt on Nov. 4 to perform his comedy-rap act. “We’re a variety venue,” said Catlin, who

also threw out comedian Neil Hamburger and Middle Class Riot as part of the diverse lineup. On a bigger scale (show and décolle-

tage-wise), Katy Perry will be making a visit to Van Andel Arena on Sept. 11. Perry is not only bringing her California Dreams tour to Grand Rapids, but is taking eclectic R&B/pop singer Janelle Monae with her. Not into candy-coated pop music? Try something a little bit harder, as Van Andel is bringing in Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival featuring Avenged Sevenfold, Three Days Grace, Seether, Bullet for My Valentine and Escape the Fate Sept. 20. Also known for bringing large country acts like Taylor Swift, Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney, Van Andel has Reba McEntire stopping by Nov. 10 with up-and-coming The Band Perry, along with Steel Magnolia and Eden’s Edge.
